Last week saw some major dismissals as well as appointments. McCann Health fired its Global CCO Jeremy Perrott for code of conduct violation. Jose Papa, Managing Director of Cannes Lions Festival was made redundant. Ogilvy fired their Worldwide Chief Creative Officer, Tham Khai Meng, after several employees complained regarding his behaviour.

Network18 hired Praveen Swami as Group Consulting Editor with a specific focus on strategic affairs, defense and diplomacy, while Gaurav Kalra as Network Sports Editor will steer the sports coverage across brands and platforms and oversee CricketNext.com. Abhishek Chaswal joined McCann Worldgroup as their Executive Creative Director

This week also saw the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) support the principle of net neutrality. The regulatory gave recommendations to implement a new telecom policy amending the current license agreement with service providers immediately.

Also with the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia finale this weekend, Sony Pictures Network (India), the official India broadcast partner for FIFA World Cup, has now got 35 brands on-board as the championship gets closer to its last leg. In the digital world, Whatsapp put out an advisory on battling fake news and limiting the spread of the same with a full page ad on tips to identify suspicious information and double-checking photos, links and information shared on the app. The move took place when IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad demanded accountability from social media platforms that are increasingly being abused and used to spread fake news.

Twitter, in an attempt to clean its platform removed locked accounts from follower count of users globally. As part of the initiative, the social media giant suspended over 70 million bots over the last two months.
