It has been a busy week with two of our events scheduled one after the other, the Indian Marketing Awards in Delhi and the exchange4media Conclave South in Bengaluru, both concluding as a grand success.

The news of the week was WPP announcing that Wunderman and J. Walter Thompson will unite to form Wunderman Thompson, a creative, data and technology agency built to inspire growth for its clients. 

The week also saw the sad demise of CNN News18 Managing Editor, Radhakrishnan Nair. Many tributes flowed in from industry veterans and Nair's colleagues praising him for being a professional father.

The past week also saw several appointments, MediaCom appoints Christine Fang as Global CFO, Havas India appointed Bobby Pawar as Chairman & Chief Creative Officer, Walt Disney Company named Mahesh Samat as APAC Head of Consumer Products Commercialisation, among others.

In the advertising world, the ad that has been the talk of the town is the campaign by Birla Aerocon Pipes. The green building solution brand has leveraged desi cultural nuances just right leaving Indians very amused.

This week began on a sad note as the media and advertising world awoke to the news of legendary ad-man, Alyque Padamsee's passing at the age of 90. Tributes poured in for the advertising doyen, considered to be the 'Father of modern Indian advertising'.

The week also witnessed many people movements, including Raj Nayak stepping down from his role as COO at Viacom18, and Joy Chakraborthy, Forbes India CEO and President (Revenue), Network18 Media & Investments, who stepped down from his role on Monday.

One of the week's big appointments has been that of Abhijit Bose, who was named Country Head of WhatsApp India. Digital marketing agency Social Kinnect also announced the appointment of Bharat Suri as Vice President of Operations. 

Also, the first edition of the exchange4media Media & Media Education Summit also began last week in New Delhi and witnessed leading experts discussing the challenges faced in the fields of Media and Media Education.

The past week, we saw many major companies announcing healthy financial results for their Q3-2018. It’s never a dull moment in the marketing and advertising industry. Last week too saw some major dismissals as well as appointments, and wins. Havas Group bolstered its leadership strength with the appointment of Rana Barua as CEO of Havas Group India. Barua was last CEO – Group of Creativeland Asia.

Sridhar Ramaswamy stepped down as Google’s Advertising Chief. Ramaswamy, who joined Google in 2003, is said to have played a critical role in growing Googles’ ad revenue from $10 billion in 2013 to the current over $100 billion.

Sagar Mahabaleshwarkar, Chief Creative Officer of Cheil WW India decided to move on from the organisation to pursue new opportunities. Emmanuel Upputuru will be replacing him.

Eros International appointed Rafiq Gangjee as its new CMO. Previously this role was carried out by Prerna Singh, who has now moved to the content team as VP - Talent & Short Films.

The week also saw Sony Pictures Network and Tata Sky lock horns over channel drop. SPN issued a statement condemning Tata Sky for choosing to drop 22 SPN channels from its subscription, sources in Tata Sky claimed that the channels dropped barely comprise 3 per cent of viewership.
