RAM Rambling: Big FM captures Bangaloreans’ ears in the evenings

According to the RAM data for 21 weeks (week 22 to week 42) for the 6-10 pm slot, all people 12 years and above, all places of listening, in Bangalore, Big FM has managed to fight off some stiff competition to maintain its leadership position. The evening prime time also has two FM players vying for the second spot – Radio Mirchi and Fever FM. In fact, both Radio Mirchi and Fever FM have been able to snatch the top position from Big FM on some occasions during this 21-week period in the Bangalore market.

Radio Mirchi was able to reach the top slot on weeks 23 and 25, and then for three consecutive weeks – 27, 28 and 29. Fever FM became the No. 1 player on week 30. However, both were able to take only marginal leads and Big FM quickly regained its numero uno position, reaching its highest peak on week 34 with a market share of 25.2 per cent. The FM station ended week 42 scoring 22.8 per cent of the market share, as compared to 20.6 per cent in the week before that.

Radio Mirchi ended week 42 with a 15.9 per cent share of the market, while Fever FM has 15.7 per cent share of the market on week 42. Fever FM saw quite a few crests and troughs in its ratings, but managed to hold on to its position among the top three FM players in the Bangalore market. With Big FM taking a definitive lead, both Radio Mirchi and Fever FM are now locked in a close fight for the second slot. Fever FM reached its highest peak on week 30, when it became the No. 1 FM station in Bangalore with 21.5 per cent market share. On week 39 again it posed a serious threat to Big FM with a market share of 20.7 per cent. Fever FM ended week 42 with a 15.7 per cent market share.

The third position sees Radio City, AIR FM1 Rainbow, and Radio One in a close fight.

While Radio city ended week 42 scoring 13 per cent share of the market, AIR FM1 Rainbow ended with 11.3 per cent market share and Radio One with 7.4 per cent market share.

The other cluster of FM stations in the Bangalore market includes Radio Indigo, AIR FM1 Vividh Bharati, Gyan Vani and Akashavani.
