Rajat Sharma and Swapan Dasgupta awarded Padma Bhushan

The President of India, Pranab Mukherjee presented the Padma Bhushan to Rajat Sharma, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of India TV, and columnist Swapan Dasgupta at a Civil Investiture Ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 30th.

Talking to exchange4media on this achievement, Rajat Sharma said, “I am humbled and honoured to have received the Padma Bhushan from the President of India this morning. I dedicate this award to millions of my viewers who have been my real source of strength. Whatever I am today is because my viewers have reposed their trust in my work. I have promised my viewers today that I will try to become worthy of the respect given to me at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.”

Sharma also tweeted about this honour and thanked his viewers. In his tweet he said, “I dedicate the Padma Bhushan conferred today to millions of my viewers who have been my real source of strength.”

Another legend Swapan Dasgupta also chose the micro blogging site to express his views on the achievement. He said, “Thanks everyone for the best wishes and the brickbats. After all, there are two sides to every medal.”

The Padma awards, one of the highest civilian awards in India, are conferred in three categories -- Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. The awards are conferred by the President at the Rashtrapati Bhawan around March or April every year.
