Maruti and Hyundai fight it out over controversial advertisement

Arch rivals Maruti Udyog and Hyundai Motor India have locked horns over a controversial advertisement. The advertisement quotes BBC Top Gear and JD Power survey in UK, pits Maruti Udyog’s WagonR against Santro to illustrate the superiority of the former. Not amused Hyundai Motor India has initiated talks with the Maruti management on the issue.

Hyundai Motors has requested MUL to refrain from such advertisements, which they believe are malicious. On the other MUL defends the ad saying that it is normal for manufacturer to share with customers, and the pubic at large, positive feedback obtained from independent sources like customer surveys and experts.

WagonR and Santro are doing well in the Indian market. In the 15 months since the Maruti WagonR launch, Hyundai has sold 83,218 Santros and MUL has sold 26,552 WagonR.
