Ifra India newspaper industry conference in Mumbai on September 25 – 26
Ifra India, the Indian subsidiary of Ifra, the Germany based leading global association for newspaper and media technology will be organising. Ifra India 2002, the tenth annual conference on newspaper industry, in Mumbai on September 25 - 26.
The conference sponsored by Indian Newspaper Society and targeted at publishers, editors, online editors, IT mangers, production and technical directors aims to update newspaper executives on the latest trends and developments in the publishing world.
An interesting feature of this year's conference that will feature three parallel seminars on CTP, Press and Mailrooms, Prepress Trends and Infographics and colour, is pre conference seminar on Content Management Systems - Editorial Systems on September 24. The seminar with participants like Summit Information Technologies, Quark India Private Limited, Tera Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd, Sansui Software Private Limited will introduce newer technologies that can help make newspaper professionals work more efficiently.
The session on CTP, Press and Mailrooms, will provide an over view of the CTP market for newspapers, with particular focus on high performance and high quality CTP systems. There will be a presentation on mailrooms with a panel discussion with three global manufacturers - IDAB, Ferag and Muller Martini besides having a comprehensive look at Rotary presses, Press auxiliaries, Press automation. The session on pre-press trends will focus on pre-press work flow, PDF update, Digital asset management in newspapers, Digital ad transmission, Monitor and Scanner calibrations colour management and proofing in digital work flow. It will also talk about fundamentals that determine the requirements of a work flow system, together with the transmission and control requirement for newspaper on-site or remote printing.
The session on Infographics will focus on infographics scene in India, with a lively discussion on why Indian newspapers are not using much infographics. There will also be tips on essentials to form a graphics department in a newspaper / magazine, use of colour in graphics and improving graphic contents.

According to seminar chairman Herald Loeffler, the high point of the two-day conference will be several case studies presented by eminent participants. There will be a case study from Times of India on implementing Enterprise wide Advertising System for competitive advantage. The Hindustan Times case study will focus on reducing waste and utilising press efficiently by implementing a proper maintenance schedule project, Dainik Bhaskar which recently won the Publish Asia 2002 Gold Award for Infographics will present a case study on the winning graphics.
