Public Relations: Communicating in the new normal world

Beginning 2008, the world pressed the ‘reset’ button and started operating in the ‘New Normal’. India PR & Corporate Communications Conference 2011 will seek to define and decode what this ‘New Normal’ is.

Organised by the exchange4media Group, India PR & Corporate Communications Conference 2011, will be held in Delhi on March 16, 2011 and bring together some of India’s leading PR practitioners and some global viewpoints as well. Adfactors is the event sponsor. Eikona is the measurement partner, while insights have been provided by Penn Schoen Berland.

The Conference will commence with a keynote address by Michael J Berland, President, Penn Schoen Berland. This will be followed by a presentation by Penn Schoen Berland Research on ‘What’s changing in our world’.

The session on ‘Going Social: The New Reputation Management Mantra’ will study the lessons learnt while building reputations online and managing one’s reputation quotient online. Rajesh Lalwani, Founder & Principal, Blogworks, will moderate the session. Panelists include Prashant Deorah, MD, Puretech; Jaspreet Bindra, Regional Director, E&D India; Meenu Handa, Director-Corp Comm, Microsoft; Anisha Motwani, Executive Vice President Marketing & Chief Marketing Officer-New Markets, Max New York Life Insurance; and Jessie Paul, Director, Paul Writer Strategic Services.

‘Fortune at the bottom of the Pyramid: Connecting with Bharat’ will explore ways to connect with ‘Bharat’ and talking the local lingo. Radhika Shapoorjee, President, IPAN Hill & Knowlton, is the session moderator. Panelists include Poonam Kaul, Country Head-Corp Comm, Nokia; Senjam Raj Shekhar, Head-Group Corp Comm, Bharti Enterprises; Ranjivjit Singh, CMO-Personal Systems Group, HP India Sales Pvt Ltd; Rahat Beri, Chief Operating Officer, Percept Profile; and Sunil Khosla, CEO, Fourth Estate India.

Lobbying will be brought to the forefront in the session titled ‘Is it time to give lobbying an industry status?’ Discussions will cover topics like: Where does one draw the line? Have PR professionals have moved from being communication professionals to professional lobbyists. Should there be a code of ethics?. Pranjal Sharma, Executive Editor, Bloomberg UTV, will moderate the session. Panelists for this session are Dr Steven King, Director, APCO Worldwide; Shivnath Thukral, Group President, Corp Branding & Strategic Initiatives, Essar; Vivek Sengupta, Chief Executive, Moving Fingers Communication; and Jitendra Bhargava, Former Executive Director, Air India.

The next session will be on ‘Dealing with angry publics: What and How in the Normal World’, where industry experts will outline how companies can transform public scrutiny into an opportunity to build goodwill and show what communicators need to do in order to turn a crisis into an opportunity. Session moderator is Bipin Chandran, Editor, Entrepreneur. Panelists include Ranjana Smetacek, Director- Marketing & Corp Comm, Fortis Health care; Atul Ahluwalia, President, Corporate Voice |Weber Shandwick, India. Meena Vaidyanathan, Director for Development, Dialogue Se; and Harjiv Singh, Co-founder & Co-CEO, Gutenberg Communications.

‘RoI or Value: Measuring success in the new normal?’ will discuss what makes for effective communication that moves publics to act in the age of information overload as well as how to measure success and how to create value. Siddhartha Mukherjee, Senior VP-Communications, TAM India, will moderate the session. Panelists for this session include Radhika Shapoorjee, President, IPAN Hill & Knowlton; Jaideep Shergill, CEO, Hanmer MSL; Seema Gupta, Asstt Professor - Marketing, IIM-Bangalore; Usha Rachael Thomas, AVP-Channel Promotion, Zee TV & Zee Cinema; and Mitu Samar, Head-Marketing Development & Communication, CRISIL Ltd.

The Conference will culminate with a panel discussion on The independent firm: Is it an endangered species?. The session will seek to answer questions like how local independent firms can compete with global networks in India; what are the next practices for the independents; etc. Achal Paul, Director, Buzz Communication, will moderate the session. The panelists include Sunil Agarwal, MD, 2020 Media; N Chandramouli, CEO, Blue Lotus; Meera Krishnan, CEO, Lexicon; and Arvind Agrawal, CEO, Atherstone Investor Communications Ltd.

The Conference will be followed by the India PR & Corporate Communications Awards (IPRCCA) 2011. IPRCCA 2011 is the most extensive and exhaustive awards to recognise the contribution and success of the PR industry.
