IPRCC Awards 2011: Jury deliberates on potential winners

The countdown to the Indian PR and Corporate Communication Awards (IPRCCA) 2011 has begun. IPRCCA 2011 is the most extensive and exhaustive awards to recognise the contribution and success of the PR industry.

The eminent Jury got together on March 12 to brainstorm on the over 120 entries received across 23 categories for the Awards, constituted for the very first time by the exchange4media Group. CVB News Service is the presenting sponsor for the Awards, while Ad Factors PR is the co-sponsor. Eikona is the measurement partner, while insights have been provided by Penn Schoen Berland.

Jury Chairperson Ashwani Singla, MD & Chief Executive, Penn Schoen Berland, got together with Jury members for the Awards – Roma Balwani, Ajay Kakkar, Sanjiv Kataria, Latika Khaneja, Rachana Panda, Vivek Pareek, Vivek Sengupta, Pranjal Sharma and Meena Vaidyanathan – to analyse, judge and declare the most deserving entries. The selection process comprised screening of the entries first and zeroing on the Top 3 entries, followed by picking up the most deserving out of all through unanimous decision of the jury members.

Animated debate between the jury members on selecting the final winner in each category was testimony to the tough competition, further signalling the quality of entries received for the Awards this year.

Speaking on the need and importance of an initiative like this, Ashwani Singla said, “The communication industry today lacks a common body of knowledge. Initiative like this would encourage the industry and professionals to contribute to this common platform for sharing knowledge and exchange a dialogue and would also recognise the growing importance of PR in today’s world. The Awards will establish credibility and prominence for this industry. We have put our best foot forward to invite most eminent, senior communicators and journalists to be a part of the judging process to make it robust and transparent, and we believe the winners will be proud of achieving this recognition from such senior people in the industry.”

The IPRCCA 2011 has covered various facets of the communications world by incorporating 23 categories to honour the professionals for their efforts in various functions of this field. Apart from felicitating the Best Use of PR in Private Sector, Public Sector, Social Cause, Financial Services Sector, Entertainment, Sports & Lifestyle sector at the agency and corporate levels, the Awards will also honour continuous PR Campaigns, Out of the Box PR Ideas, Young Achievers Award, PR Agency of the Year, and Best Small PR Agency of the Year, to name a few. The criterion for judging the entries was based on parameters like Challenges, Clarity of Goals, Strategies, Alignment Between Strategy and Execution, Measurable Results, and so on.

Ajay Kakkar, Chief Marketing Officer, Financial Services, Aditya Birla Group, noted, “PR is a special and rare discipline that brings immense value to marketers, whether in good or in bad times. I congratulate exchange4media for instituting awards like these, which would recognise a discipline that has not got the due recognition it deserves.”

Commenting on the evaluation process, Pranjal Sharma, Editor, Bloomberg UTV, said, “I am glad to have been a part of this process, which was absolutely without an agenda. The whole process has been very transparent, without any bias and there has been coherence and convergence in the thoughts of various jury members. The quality of our efforts will reflect in the quality of awards. Though PR is an important part of the media landscape, there are lot of misconceptions in the minds of people about this industry. We have to now take it to a more transparent and better level and these Awards are probably a step in that direction.”

The Indian PR and Corporate Communication Awards 2011 will be given away at a special ceremony in New Delhi on March 16, 2011. The Awards will be preceded by an informative and thought-provoking conference the same day – from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm. The conference will have some of the most sought after speakers in the PR and corporate communications industry to discuss and deliberate on ‘Communication in the New Normal World’.
