Edited excerpts:

How do you feel being the winner of the Women Achievers initiative?

It gives me immense pride on having received this award. I would like to congratulate the entire team of exchange4media for bringing forth a platform and organizing this exclusive first edition of Women Achievers Awards in the field of PR & Communication.

What are the attributes/ qualities required to be a leader in the communication industry?

Respect for each other and empathy are first and foremost quality any individual must inculcate whether it is at the professional or personal front to ensure a cohesive environment. We often tend to overlook this attribute in our day to day hustle and work stress.

Another important quality of a good communication leader is the ability to listen, comprehend and then put forward the recommendations. Being a good team player is also important as a good communication campaign can never happen in isolation. We must understand our TG, the narrative, right tools and timeframe.  These are the secret ingredients needed to make a successful communication campaign.

What role have women played in the restructuring of the industry and How has the communications industry changed over the years for the women workforce?

Women workforce is a key part of this industry today. Infact, PR & Communication has been one field in which I have seen majority of women employees. To see that the industry has further opened up and are welcoming women leaders in their organization shows that women have played an important role in restructuring the industry.  More and more organizations are making a conscious decision to invest in female workforce by bringing in policies such as maternity benefits, crèche, period leave and others.

Why do we need to have more leaders at the helm of organizations in today's scenario and what value women bring to the table?

The culture of a workplace flows from top to bottom. Employees see and follow their leaders. I completely agree on inclusion of women leaders at the helm of organizations in today's scenario as gender balance automatically brings in steadiness, integrity, compassion and discipline at a workplace

What are your future goals? What initiative would you like to take as a responsible woman leader for the industry/society?

I take up one day at a time. Communication industry is extremely dynamic and my everyday goal is to keep up with the changing pace.  As for the future, I seek to invest my time and knowledge in taking up projects focusing on hygiene for women and self-reliance.

How do you see the PR and the corp comm industry shaping up in the years to come and your message to the future women leaders.

PR & Corporate Communications industry has already seen a great shift in last decade. PR is not only media management anymore, it is utilization of digital platforms, content generation, visuals, campaigns,  reputation management, advocacy,  people’s opinion – everything rolled into one!  PR industry will further become digitally strong in the years to come.
