Vedanta Group, a global diversified natural resources company, has appointed Lodestar UM as its media agency. Ogilvy India has been associated with Vedanta for its creative requisites. While there are no details available on the size of the business, industry sources say that the account would be of a significant size.
Vedanta currently operates in India, Zambia, South Africa, Namibia, Liberia, Ireland and Australia, with interests in aluminium, copper, iron ore, zinc, lead and silver. The holding company, Vedanta Resources Plc, was the first Indian company to be listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2003 and it is a FTSE 100 company. The other companies of Vedanta Group include Hindustan Zinc, Sesa Goa and Sterlite Industries.
The group is also set to enter the oil and gas sector, following the Cabinet approval of its plan to buy a majority stake in Cairn India, India’s fourth largest oil and gas company. The group employs over 30,000 people in various locations.
