STAR DEN announces top level appointments; Gurjeev Singh Kapoor roped in as CEO

STAR DEN, a joint venture between STAR India and Digital Entertainment Networks, has recently made some top level appointments. Gurjeev Singh Kapoor has been brought in as CEO, while Mohammed Mujeebuddin has been appointed Executive Vice President, Digital Platforms and Business Development, and Chandrashekar Shetty has been appointed as Senior Vice-President, Sales & Marketing.

Gurjeev Singh Kapoor assumed the role of CEO at STAR DEN with effect from February 1, 2008, where he is responsible for the overall business of STAR DEN in India. He will be reporting to the Board of Directors.

Commenting on his appointment, Kapoor said, “I am happy to join this joint venture between two dynamic groups – STAR India and Digital Entertainment Network – and lead a very talented distribution team.”

Kapoor, a cable and broadcasting industry veteran with over 13 years in the trade, has earlier worked with ESPN and Zee International before joining Discovery Communications. He moved to Set Discovery in April 2002, when the joint venture between Sony Entertainment Television and Discovery Communications was formed.

Mohammed Mujeebuddin, who has been roped in as Executive Vice President, Digital Platforms and Business Development, brings with him 20 years of experience in manufacturing, service, distribution and general management functions. In his previous assignment he was heading the Digital Distribution business and broadcast partnerships at STAR India.

Chandrashekar Shetty, who has been appointed as Senior Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, has over 15 years of experience in service and distribution. His previous assignments included heading Western and Eastern Distribution and Trade Marketing in India at STAR.

STAR DEN Media Services Ltd was formed to create a platform for distributing television channels in India via all fixed networks, including cable, DTH, IPTV, HITS and MMDS.
