Senthil Kumar becomes youngest ECD at JWT India; agency beefs up creative down South

Senthil Kumar has been elevated from his position at JWT Mumbai, where he was Associate VP and Creative Director. He is Chennai-bound as VP and Executive Creative Director at JWT India’s Chennai office, thus becoming the agency’s youngest Executive Creative Director at the age of just 33. Kumar joins Joono Simon, VP and Creative Director, and will continue to work on national and regional projects for key accounts of JWT India.

Kumar’s movement to Chennai further beefs up JWT Chennai’s creative team, which now has two Cannes Gold Lion winners in the creative function – Simon and Kumar.

Kumar will be heading creative in the region for Ford Automobiles, Lifestyle, Murugappa Group, Pondicherry Tourism, Parryware, Reynolds, GRT Hotels, Resorts and Jewellery, Ashok Leyland, Nippon Paints and Lotte Confectioneries.

Asked on the move from Mumbai, considered to be the advertising capital, to Chennai, Kumar said, “The location does not matter. It has always been the idea that matters. I am looking forward to some stimulating revolutionary ideas on brands like Ford, Lifestyle, Reynolds, Pondicherry Tourism, GRT and the rest of our clients here.”

JWT Chennai, a leading creative office in the network, already has a Promo Gold Lion at Cannes 2006 and Silver Lion in 2005. Kumar brings with him the legacy of the Levi’s Slim Jeans campaign that has captured the imagination of award shows the world over. His other recent campaigns include the HP Turbojet (Zyada Mileage) campaign, the DTC Diamond season campaign, Sri Lanka Tourism, and the Elvis look alike campaign for Unilever in Asia Pacific.

His award portfolio includes over 100 national and international creative awards, including India’s first Cannes Grand Prix Runner Up and Campaign Gold Lion on Levi’s Slim Jeans, India’s first Young Guns Silver Bullet, D&AD Book selections, CLIO Statues, Asia Pacific Adfest Awards, New York Festival World Medals in Film & Radio and a Gold World Medal for Marketing Effectiveness, Abby Golds and AAAI Golds.

Kumar has worked in all the offices of JWT in India as a writer and Creative Director on Levi’s, Dockers, Spice Telecom, Kingfisher and UB Export at JWT Bangalore; on DTC, Smirnoff, HP Turbojet, Sri Lanka Tourism and Unilever Detergents at JWT Mumbai; and on special projects for Pepsi at JWT Delhi.

Prior to JWT, Kumar has had stints with Trikaya Grey Advertising in Bangalore and Colombo, and Akshar Advertising in Bangalore.
