Rediffusion DYR brings on board Wasim Basir as Group EVP

Rediffusion DYR has announced the appointment of Wasim Basir as Group Executive Vice President. Basir moves from Red Lounge, a Coca-Cola venture in China where he was Managing Director. He will be reporting directly to Mahesh Chauhan, Group CEO, Rediffusion DYR.

Basir’s profile at Rediffusion has been freshly created to bolster the business orientation sense that drives the agency. He will be looking after the agency’s key businesses as well as new initiatives to build capabilities.

Speaking on Basir’s appointment, Mahesh Chauhan said, “Bringing Wasim on board has been a conscious and strategic decision to strengthen a very strong leadership team at the organisation. Wasim is a fantastic talent and an inspiring leader, who is one with us in our efforts to reinvent the industry. We are fine-tuning the organisation’s capabilities and are now ready for more.”

On his new role, Basir said, “I am happy that Rediffusion was keen to develop such a strategic and remarkable role for me. It shows their ability to think ahead of the curve. Reinvention is the future of our industry, the sooner everyone realises this, the better off they will be. I am keen to work in a place which is high on adrenaline, potent in creativity, abuzz with opportunities and brings me back to India.”

Basir brings with him over 14 years’ experience. In his earlier role at Red Lounge, he was spearheading the Olympic efforts of brand Coca-Cola in China, consolidating internal Coca-Cola marketing teams with creative, interactive, activation, PR and media functions, a unique strategic marketing concept within the industry.

He began his career the advertising industry in 1995 as an Account Executive with Chaitra Leo Burnett, Mumbai. He moved on to Leo Burnett China in December 2000 as Group Brand Director at their Shanghai office. Post Leo Burnett, Basir was Group Business Director at McCann Erickson, Shanghai, where he strategically led Coca-Cola.
