Raghu Bhat bids adieu to Contract Advertising

Close on the heels of Manish Bhatt putting in his papers at Contract, his partner Raghu Bhat, too, has bid adieu to Contract Advertising as Senior Vice-President and Executive Creative Director at Contract Advertising. Currently, the two look forward to pursuing their own individual projects, but intend to return to advertising with their own venture.

Confirming the move, Bhat said, “I am currently going to focus my expertise on Fungus Design, a venture that deals in manufacturing and marketing designer laptop bags.”

On his quitting advertising, Bhat made it clear that he would definitely return to the industry, joining his partner Manish Bhatt. When questioned about if the duo has any plans to float their own venture, Bhat refrained from divulging any details.

However, according to industry sources, Bhatt and Bhat plan to float their own venture. It is believed that the duo did get offers from other agencies, but are not very keen to join them, and instead prefer to do something of their own as they claim to be getting offers from both international and national networks to float a creative shop.

As for their replacements at Contract Advertising, the agency has no plans of filling in the duo’s shoes. Ravi Deshpande, Chairman and CCO, Contract Advertising, will take charge of the duo’s team and so would ECD Raj Nair, who will work closely with Deshpande.

Raghu Bhat’s advertising career spans 13 years. He has worked with agencies like Contract Delhi, Ogilvy, Ambience Publicis and McCann Erickson.

Along with partner Manish Bhatt, he had forged a highly fruitful partnership, leading to market share building campaigns. At Ambience, he had worked on the transition of Parachute from a mother-daughter brand into a beauty brand. At McCann, he had launched Hanes with the ‘tagless scissors’ commercial. He has also worked on brands like Vaseline Aloe Fresh lotion and Nerolac Impressions.

At Contract, he had worked on launch campaigns like KILB Pension and Star Child for Aegon Religare. He also handled clients like DNA, Asian Paints Tractor and Cadbury. Along with Manish Bhatt, he created the ‘Respect Your National Anthem’ and ‘Hostel’ films.
