Pheroza Bilimoria steps down from Business India as MD

After spending over three decades with Business India Group, Pheroza Bilimoria has stepped down as the company’s Managing Director. Billimoria continues to be associated with the company as Director for now, but she will relinquish the post soon.

At present, Ashok Advani, Founder Publisher, Business India Group, is now overseeing most of the tasks that Billimoria was handling. However, it is understood that the company will announce a succession plan soon.

In a conversation with exchange4media, Billimoria said, “Ending such a long association is difficult. It is an emotional bond by now but my current personal circumstances have overridden any other consideration. I continue my association as a friend and well wisher. I will interact with my colleagues as and when they may require my inputs, and as and when I have the time.”

Billimoria began her journey with Business India Group in 1978, when she had taken the responsibility to look after the advertisement and circulation sales for the magazine.

Recalling her journey at the company so far, Billimoria said, “It’s difficult to pinpoint specific landmarks; there are far too many. The first taste of success was when in October of 1978 we put Business India magazine on the media map. Setting up our cable TV business, restructuring the debt created by BITV and then paying most of the debt in the last decade were some memorable milestones. Last but not the least was becoming the first women president of the Ad Club Mumbai.”

Elaborating on her succession plan, Billimoria said, “We haven’t looked for someone specifically, that search will begin shortly. There may be more than one person. Currently Ashok Advani has taken over most of my tasks. I continue to stay involved – not in any official capacity, but as a friend and mentor and obviously on a much reduced scale. So there hasn’t been a huge urgency to find someone.”

On her future plans, Billimoria added, “My priority is my family rig now, so I haven’t seriously thought of my future plans. I know I am not the type to sit by doing nothing for the rest of my life. I still have a few good working years ahead of me. All I know is that I will do something - but only at the right time when my personal situation permits.”
