Noreen Naqvi appointed Director General, Doordarshan

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has appointed Noreen Naqvi as Director General, Doordarshan, on a temporary basis. She becomes the first female DG of Doordarshan. Naqvi was serving as Deputy Director General at All India Radio at the time of her elevation. She replaces LD Mandloi, who had been handling the additional charge of DG, Doordarshan, for the last two years.

Naqvi had started her career with AIR as a program executive. She has more than 25 years of experience at AIR.

Meanwhile, Mandloi would continue to function in his original position as DDG Doordarshan. Incidentally, the post of DG (AIR), too, has been lying vacant since last year and as of now no decision has been taken by the I&B Ministry on filling it up. Though there were speculations that Mandloi would occupy the post, sources said that he would stay put as DDG, Doordarshan.
