NEW Ex-Zee News Editor Alka Saxena quits; starts chat show on Janmat channel

Alka Saxena, former Editor of Zee News and Advisor to Director of Zee News Group, Laxmi Goel, has quit after a four-and-a-half-year stint with the channel. She has now been contracted to do a chat show for Adhikari Brothers’ new current affairs channel Janmat which was launched yesterday.

Saxena was recently in the news after she was shifted as Editor, Zee News, and made Advisor to Laxmi Goel on ‘health grounds’. Subsequently, she had proceeded on leave before quitting Zee News on October 31.

Speaking to exchange4media, Saxena said she left Zee News on a good note. “Of late I was finding it rather difficult to cope with the 12-14 hours’ daily schedule because of my health. Moreover, I was bogged down with day-to-day administrative work, hardly getting time for anchoring which is my forte.”

Saxena has now been commissioned by Janmat to anchor their flagship chat show, ‘Aap Ka Mat’. This daily (Monday to Thursday) talk show in the 10-11 pm time slot will be based on the day’s current issue featuring two celebrity guests and a live audience.

Talking about this prime time show that opened on Sunday with the topic ‘How safe is Delhi?’ featuring former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana and Delhi MP Krishna Teerath, Saxena said that there will be no post editing of the show and it will be telecast deferred live. “The best part this chat show on national issues is the 100-strong live studio audience that will add interactivity to the show. Besides the studio audience, we will also have people’s reactions from across the country,” she added.

Saxena is quite upbeat about Aap Ka Mat. “The show should provide me a good platform to further evolve and expand my television career.” Elaborating on her future plans, she said that she did not intend taking up a full-time job and would like to divide her time between television and print journalism through freelance work.
