Nitish Mukherjee, who was until recently Managing Director of Orchard Advertising, is moving to Leo Burnett as Managing Director. In his new role, he will be based in Mumbai and oversee Leo Burnett’s Mumbai and Delhi offices.

In the last seven years as MD of Orchard, Mukherjee took the agency from a single-city startup to three full-fledged offices in Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. The agency’s revenues grew nearly five-fold under his stewardship.

Arvind Sharma, Leo Burnett’s Chairman, said, “One of the toughest jobs in this business is to help a startup agency achieve national stature. Having done an outstanding job at Orchard, Nitish’s new role at Leo Burnett is a natural progression.”

Sharma further added, “Growth of the Indian economy offers infinite opportunities for all businesses including advertising agencies. But these opportunities come with increasing complexity -- attention to speedy development, retention of talent, demand from clients for holistic solutions tailored to their needs, and aggressive development of strengths in the marketing services areas. Nitish’s addition will strengthen the Leo Burnett top management team to successfully deal with these challenges and make the most of the opportunity.”

Said Mukherjee, “My first priority would be to help strengthen Burnett’s reputation for driving clients’ businesses through outstanding creative. My priority number two and three will be growth and growth. The only way to attract and keep good talent in an environment of high growth and high salary inflation is to stay ahead of the salary inflation curve through growth.”

“Nitish is a champion of great creative work. Under his leadership, Orchard picked up awards at international as well as local award shows. The work for Hitachi airconditioners, Manhattan credit cards and Air Deccan was recognized all around. These are examples of work that consumers and juries alike love. I’m looking forward to working with him,” said KV Sridhar, Leo Burnett’s National Creative Director.

Mukherjee’s successor at Orchard will be announced shortly.
