IMG India appoints Yahoo!’s Balu Nayar as Managing Director

Balu Nayar, former Regional Director of Yahoo, South Asia, has been appointed as the new Managing Director of IMG India. He will take charge of his new role from October 3, 2006. Nayar’s appointment follows the departure of Ravi Krishnan from the company earlier in the year. Krishnan, however, continues as a consultant to IMG.

Andrew Wildblood, Senior Vice-President, IMG, and Senior Corporate Director, IMG India, said, “Balu’s appointment demonstrates IMG’s ongoing commitment to India. Our operations in India commenced in 1993 and we have maintained permanent offices in the country since 1995. We welcome Balu. His diverse skill set is ideally positioned to lead the company through the many challenges and opportunities that the dynamic Indian media and sports market places present.”

Nayar was based in Singapore. As part of Yahoo!’s Connected Life Business Unit, he was responsible for driving the mobile and broadband initiatives in the region. With a career spanning the Internet, mobile, television and advertising, Nayar’s earlier responsibilities included leading the value-added services business at Hutchison Max Telecom and heading the marketing function at STAR India.

Nayar is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and did his MBA from IIM Bangalore.
