Gaurav Seth appointed Business Head of Vyas Giannetti Creative Sports

Gaurav Seth, previously Head of Marketing and Communication at Essel Group’s Indian Cricket League, is the new Business Head of Vyas Giannetti Creative Sports (VGCS), India’ first ‘sporting concepts’ firm. VGCS is part of Mumbai-headquartered Rs 200 crore Vyas Giannetti Creative.

After helping set up the first professional cricket league in the country, Seth decided to move on and assume the challenge of developing sports at VGCS, where he will be responsible for charting the company’s ambitious growth plans. Seth was with the Zee Group for over three years and earlier involved in setting up their maiden sports channel, Zee Sports, before getting involved with the ICL project full-time. In his career spanning 14 years, Seth has also had a long stint with ESPN-STAR Sports and AltaVista prior to joining Zee.

Commenting on his new role, Seth said, “I think it’s an amazing time to be in sports. There is a growing buzz around non-cricket sports and corporates are increasingly viewing it as an alternative platform to build businesses around. Media is aggressively chasing even the smallest of stories around sport, and film-makers too are getting into the act to top it all. There is a new breed of young sportspersons hungry for success at the world level.”

“It all augurs very well for this fledgling industry of sports management, and I am fortunate to be leading a dynamic new company into this bright future. Launching the ICL against literally all odds and tackling a myriad of problems, which come with setting up a new concept and that too against such formidable opposition, was no mean feat. I believe those learnings will hold me in good stead and will aid me in creating some amazing sporting properties at VGC Sports,” he added.

Atul Hegde, COO of VGC, said, “As we move into top gear for 2008, it’s a pleasure to have Gaurav come on board to lead VGCS. He brings with him loads of experience in the sporting arena, but more importantly, a mindset that looks at sports as a platform to build brands and not just being used as media reach vehicles. VGCS has from day one differentiated itself by creating unique sports concepts that help marketers to not just reach out to their consumers but also connect with them. I look forward to Gaurav taking the company to its next level now.”
