Dibang to join Star News; to host talk shows on lines of ‘Muqabala’

Dibang, a well-known face in the TV news industry, is joining Star News, where he will be hosting talk shows on the lines of ‘Muqabala’, which he had hosted when he was in NDTV. Star News management told exchange4media that Dibang was joining on a long contract.

On joining Star News, Dibang said, “I’ve had more offers, but decided to join Star News as it is among the top three Hindi news channels and I feel that Star News has more news sense. Secondly, I am a talk show master and I feel there is lack of intellectual talk shows on Star News. The name and format of the show is not clear at present, but it will be a weekend show and some names thought out for the proposed show include ‘Maha Muqabala’, ‘Star Muqabala’ and ‘Dibang Ka Muqabala’.”

When asked about his designation at Star News, Dibang said, “I am not after any particular designation, if you are doing good work, then designations don’t matter that much.”

Dibang had started his career in journalism with The Illustrated Weekly of India. Prior to joining television news, he was a correspondent with The Sunday Times of India in New Delhi.

At NDTV India, he was Managing Editor. He was the launching face for the 24-hour Hindi news channel as Executive Editor. Before NDTV India, he was with Aaj Tak. Dibang has also worked for several foreign television networks, including SBS and ABC of Australia, NHK of Japan and RAI of Italy.
