Cheil COO Vineet Singh Hukmani to join Radio One as CEO

Vineet Singh Hukmani, COO, Cheil Communications, India and South West Asia, is slated to join Radio One, the FM subsidiary of the Mid-Day Group, in September 2007.

Confirming Hukmani’s appointment, Tariq Ansari, Managing Director, Mid-Day Multimedia, said, “I am tremendously excited to welcome someone of Vineet Singh Hukmani’s calibre to the Mid-Day Group. We have some exciting plans for growth in metro cities across media platforms and Vineet will be a valuable member of our core strategy group aside from running the FM radio operations.”

He further said, “We are looking to build the FM network of metro cities that matter. Vineet’s experience in radio, music and advertising will help us in defining what urban radio in this country is all about and strengthen synergies across our newspaper, radio and digital plays.”

Hukmani started out early as an RJ with a Kuwait radio station at the age of 14. He is an electronics engineer and an MBA, who was part of the team that set up WorldSpace in India. He was also instrumental in setting up Indigo Radio for BPL Innovision. His passion for music makes him a perfect fit for radio. Hukmani is also the lead singer of ‘Balle Balle Boyz’, who have released three albums with sales of over a million copies.

Hukmani’s advertising experience involves working in Business Head positions at Saatchi & Saatchi and Mudra Communications.

He is currently serving his notice period at Cheil Communications, Samsung’s Rs 185-crore in-house agency, where he has played a pivotal role in its growth in the last three years.

Radio One is a joint venture between Mid-Day Multimedia and BBC Worldwide. It has FM stations in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai, and would soon commence operations in Ahmedabad, Pune and Kolkata.
