: Bharatmatrimony’s Murugavel Janakiraman takes over as IAMAI Chairman

Murugavel Janakiraman, Founder & CEO, Bharatmatrimony.com, has been appointed Chairman of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) for 2007-08. He will be taking over from Anupam Mittal, Chairman, People Group. Jaspreet Bindra, Country Manager, MSN and Windows Live, will take over from Avnish Bajaj, Founder, baazee.com and currently Founding Managing Partner, Matrix Partners, as Vice-chairman.

IAMAI President Dr. Subho Ray will continue in his present position. The official communiqué also states that Upen Roop Rai, Director, Times Internet, is the new Treasurer.

Commenting the association’s plans for the year ahead, Murugavel said, “Building on the achievements of last year, we would like to focus on four areas.” He specified the four areas as: a) making the association more broad based and representative; b) reaching out to government and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth growth of the industry; c) training programmes to encourage the younger generation to join this industry; and d) encouraging and supporting new entrepreneurs.

Speaking on his appointment, Bindra said, “Representing the fastest growing industry segments like Internet and mobile value-added services is a great challenge and IAMAI is well prepared to take up the challenge”.

Janakiraman is also the founder of online brands such as Clickjobs.com, Indiaproperty.com and Indiaautomobile.com, among others.
