BBC World promotes Amit Upadhyay as Head-Distribution & Business Development, South Asia

BBC World has promoted Amit Upadhyay to head Distribution and Business Development in South Asia. He will be based in Mumbai and will be responsible for developing distribution plans and strategies for the South Asian region. He will also be responsible for maximising and building on BBC World’s current distribution base and identifying business development opportunities in the region.

Upadhyay will lead an experienced distribution and business development team to build upon the channel’s success in South Asia and will report to Gerry Ritchie, Regional Director, Distribution and Business Development (Europe, Middle East, South Asia, and the Americas).

Prior to the promotion, Upadhyay was the Regional Manager, Network Development, for the western region of India. He has been an integral part of the distribution team with BBC World since 2001, and prior to joining BBC World he had worked with STAR TV.

Commenting on the appointment, Ritchie said, “I am delighted to announce this appointment and congratulate Amit on his well deserved promotion. The Indian distribution market is very dynamic and evolving at a rapid pace. This key position will allow us to have the most effective structure to strengthen and develop our distribution ties and lead the channel to greater growth and success.”
