Rajiv Agarwal back in advertising; partners with Arun Kale & relaunches Nexus Equity

Rajiv Agarwal, one of the highest regarded names in Indian advertising, is making a comeback to the industry after a gap of seven years. Joining hands with his former business partner Arun Kale, the duo has relaunched Nexus Equity. Nexus Equity began operations on January 3, 2011.

Agarwal confirmed the development to exchange4media, and added, “The agency would be essentially in the creative space of advertising. We want to work with a small but interesting set of clients, where Arun and I can both be personally involved in the work.”

Nexus, an agency founded by Rajiv Agarwal and Arun Kale, was established in 1985. In 1993, Nexus took over Mumbai based Equity, and renamed itself to Nexus Equity. Agarwal and Kale as founders have been credited for a large volume of advertising work that made a mark not just in India but even won at platforms such as Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. The Ericsson film ‘One black Coffee’, which won India its first ever Lion and the brand position of ‘The Complete Man’ for Raymond’s are some examples.

Nexus Equity at the time had a work force of over 200 people with office in Delhi and Bangalore apart from the Mumbai headquarters of the agency. Later in 1997, Nexus Equity had merged with Enterprise to form Enterprise Nexus. Agarwal and Kale were a part of the top team of the agency, along with the agency’s Chairman Mohammad Khan.

In 2000, Agarwal joined RMG David and a couple of years later, was the MD & CEO of Bates, now known as Bates 141.

In 2004, Agarwal took a break from advertising. Arun Kale in the meanwhile wore his entrepreneur hat and was running a graphic studio.

The duo is now back in the Indian advertising space again with Nexus Equity, which would be a Mumbai based agency.
