Changes at Mail Today: Suresh Balakrishnan quits; Rakesh Sharma to take charge
Suresh Balakrishnan, Chief Operating Officer, Mail Today, has resigned from the publication. Highly placed sources informed that Aaj Samaj’s CEO Rakesh Sharma would be taking charge of the publication. Sharma would be reporting to Ashish Bagga, CEO, India Today Group.
On being contacted, Bagga declined to comment on the development.
Highly placed sources informed exchange4media that Balakrishnan was expected to be with the Group till March 2011.
Balakrishnan had joined the Group in June 2007, and has been a part of the publication beginning from working on the joint venture between the India Today Group and Daily Mail of the UK to setting up the teams, printing operations, business plans and overall business strategy.
Rakesh Sharma, a veteran of the print industry, brings over 35 years of experience to the table. Prior to Aaj Samaj, Sharma was working with HT Media as Business Head – North & Publisher.
Another senior change that Mail Today had recently witnessed was Abhay Desai resigning as Associate Publisher. He was replaced by Varun Kohli, who moved from The Time of India Group.
Details on Balakrishnan’s destination next were not available at the time of filing the report.
As is known, Mail Today is a daily morning newspaper circulated in Delhi and is a 74:26 joint venture between the India Today Group and Daily Mail of the UK.
