STAR Ananda felicitates Shera Bengalis

STAR Ananda felicitated 10 eminent personalities from diverse fields for their achievements that made the Bengali community proud at a special ceremony on July 14. Dubbed the STAR Ananda Shera Bangalis 2007, the personalities were chosen following an in-depth research conducted by the STAR Ananda editorial team headed by Aveek Sarkar, Editor, Ananda Bazar Patrika and The Telegraph.

The 10 Shera Bengalis are Pranab Mukherjee, Minister for Defence; Asim Ghosh, Managing Director, Hutchison Essar; Debu Bhattacharya, Managing Director, Hindalco; Dr Muhammad Yunus, Economist and winner of Nobel Peace Prize for 2006; Dhritikanta Lahiri Choudhury, academician and expert on elephants; Arpita Singh, painter; cricketer Sourav Ganguly; film director Anurag Basu; and actor Mithun Chakraborty.

Mukherjee and Ghosh were felicitated as the most astounding Shera Bengalis of 2007 for their contributions that not only made an impact on the society and humanity, but also took the Bengalis to the world stage. General Shankar Roy Chowdhury (retd) and Sarkar conferred the honours in the presence of distinguished dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Barun Das, Vice-President, MCCS, said, “We at STAR Ananda have dedicated ourselves to reflecting and catalysing the growth and resurgence of West Bengal and thus, continually contribute in this process. Shera Bengali is an effort in that direction to recognise those successful Bengalis who not only have excelled in their respective fields, but have also helped in putting Bengalis in the international limelight.”

The Shera Bengali Award ceremony was presented by the Camellia Group in association with Priya Biscuits, Sriniketan, Asian Sky Shop and Surf Excel. The media partners for the event were Ananda Bazar Patrika, Friends 91.9 FM and Selvel, while the event and trophy partners were Millennium EMS and Senco Gold, respectively.
