India Brand Summit 2006: Lowe and Mindshare shine at DAKS Brand Awards

The first day of the India Brand Summit (IBS) 2006 culminated with DAKS Awards for Brand Excellence. Speaking on the occasion, R L Bhatia, Director, IBS, said that it was 15 years ago that they had decided to do something extraordinary and the idea of Awards for Excellence in Brands was born. Sameer Nair, CEO, STAR Entertainment, India was the Chairman of the IBS 2006.

Amongst the awards won was Awards for Brand Leadership in Service and Hospitality, which went to Kingfisher. In IT, the winner was Lenovo; in durables, it was Nokia; in FMCG it was Marico. The Campaign of the Year was won by Lowe’s ‘Daag Achhe Hain’ campaign for Surf Excel, while MindShare was adjudged Agency of the Year.

Bhatia also announced the names of the Chairpersons of IBS 2007 and IBS 2008. While Rajesh Sawhney, President, Reliance Entertainment Ltd would be the Chairman of IBS 2007, Sunil Lulla, CEO, Times Now, would be the Chairman of IBS 2008. Hemant Sachdev would be Chairman of the World Brand Summit to be held in 2009.

The Who’s Who of the corporate world were present at the Awards, which included Anand Mahindra of Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd; Vijay Mallya, who came to accept the award for Brand Leadership in Service and Hospitality for Kingfisher, spoke at length about the brand; winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Brijmohan Munjal of Hero Honda; Prasoon Joshi, and R Balki, among others.
