Exclusive : Zee News’ Barun Das on jury for prestigious International Emmy Awards 2010

Barun Das, CEO, Zee News Ltd, has been invited to be on the jury of the finals of the news category at the 38th International Emmy Awards. The prestigious awards will be held on November 22, 2010 in New York. Talking about the experience Das told exchange4media, “No experience as such. The judging was through the Internet. Apparently, people apply to become jurors. However, it was a pleasant surprise for me to get an invitation to become a juror from the Academy.”

According to Das, the entries were outstanding in every form. “Quite brilliant. Subject, concept, treatment, photography and camera, sequencing, delivery – on every count the works that I have gone through are amazing. I am sure the cost of production would be many times more than anyone could ever afford,” he added.

He further that he didn’t find the entire process challenging, but enriching, “No challenge really; excepting that it was a tough job in deciding the order. Each one was brilliant. There were four semi-final entries that were sent to me to be ranked. Basically, now I have a benchmark in terms of what’s brilliant as far as news content is concerned at the world standard. And I aspire that some of my channels would win one very soon.”

Talking about the award standards, Das noted, “I think they are very thorough and process driven. I am not sure how these awards are done in India as I have never been part of such a judging process in India.”

The International Emmy World Television Festival will take place on November 20-21 in New York.
