The Business Today Best CFO Awards, instituted by the group in association with Ambit RSM, were presented at a ceremony in Mumbai recently. Fourteen CFOs made the final cut after a rigorous analysis of the financial performance of their respective companies and scrutiny by an eminent panel of judges. Bharat Doshi, Executive Director-Finance and Corporate Affairs, Mahindra & Mahindra, was adjudged the Best CFO.

Recognising the critical role played by Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) in a business organisation, Business Today initiated the first-ever ranking of India's best CFO's, rewarding their efforts.

"Over the years, the role of CFOs has changed in more ways than one. He is involved in critical aspects of the organisation starting from mergers and acquisitions to developing long-term strategies. We felt the need to create a platform where their efforts can be given due credit and recognition," said Pawan Varshnei, Director Publishing-Business Division, India Today Group.

The thirteen other CFOs who were also given the award included Sanjiv Bajaj, ED-Finance, Bajaj Auto; S G Joglekar, VP-Finance, Bharat Forge; Mehernosh B Kapadia, Senior ED, GlaxoSmithkline Pharmaceuticals; D D Rathi, Whole Time Director & CFO, Grasim Industries; Ravi Sud, VP-Finance, Hero Honda Motors; K Vaidyanath, ED, ITC; TV Mohandas Pai, Director-Finance and Administration and CFO, Infosys Technologies; S Rajagopalan, CFO, Monsanto India; P K Mukherjee, Director-Finance, Sesa Goa; H.G. Gelis, ED-Finance, Siemens; Koushik Chatterjee, VP-Finance, Tata Iron & Steel Co.; Praveen P Kadle, ED-Finance and Corporate Affairs, Tata Motors and Robin Banerjee, ED-Finance, Thomas Cook, India.

Said Sanjoy Narayan, Editor, Business Today, "The awards are based on a rigorous study that aims at identifying what these Best CFOs do differently. We hope the survey, which considered all the BT 500 companies, will spur more competition and help develop financial leadership in India Inc."

P Chidambaram, Union Finance Minister, and the Chief Guest at the ceremony, gave away the awards. The platform also saw the release of Business Today's special issue on India's Best CFOs by the Minister and Aroon Purie, Editor-in-Chief, India Today Group.
