The ABP team comprising Trishit Majumdar and Subhrangshu Banerjee swept the Kolkata regionals of the Amar Ujala MQ 2012 – What’s Your Media Quotient? quiz with a total score of 70 points. The Media Quiz was held in Kolkata on June 22.
Quiz masters for the Kolkata round were Sumit Roy, Founder Director, Univbrands and Jayashree Mohanka, Director, Electro Zavod India.
While this was Majumdar’s first experience of the Media Quiz, for Banerjee it was the third year participating in the quiz. Neither was expecting to win the Kolkata round, given the stiff competition from fellow participants, all equally keen quizzers. “At the most, we were expecting to be amongst the top three,” said Majumdar.
Both Majumdar and Banerjee felt that being part of a media house helped them prepare for the quiz, though neither made any specific preparations. “It feels good to beat several good teams and be in the game,” both said.
When asked about their game plan for the finals, Majumdar replied, “We found ourselves lacking somewhat in the knowledge of digital campaigns. So we will pay more attention to that aspect. Besides, we will be reading up more, watching more TV and firm up our knowledge base. Most of all, keep a cool head.” Banerjee, on the other hand, prefers to “take it as it comes” and leave it to his teammate when it comes to doing all the hard preparations.
Both agreed that the questions were a lot better this year. Banerjee appreciated that the questions were not “bookish”, but tested the participants’ knowledge. He suggested the addition of a few more rounds to the quiz. Majumdar liked the fact that questions focused more on media.
The Delhi regionals this year was won by the duo comprising Rohan Khanna and Tanmay Prusty of the Genpact-Reckitt Benckiser team. The winning team had a total score of 65 points.
After Kolkata, the Amar Ujala Media Quiz moves on to Bangalore on June 27. The grand finale will be held in Mumbai on June 29.
