Madhu Kishwar demands refund of lifetime membership fee from Editors Guild of India

Madhu Purnima Kishwar, founder Manushi, a journal about women, demanded a refund of Rs 10,000, which she had paid to the Editors Guild of India for lifetime membership.

“But since the Guild as a body has turned into a farce and does not even extend me the courtesy of being treated like an ordinary member--most of whom don't even pay yearly dues—I request you to refund my hard earned money which i (sic) gave to the guild by way of life membership,” she wrote in an email to Raj Chengappa, former president of Editors Guilf of India (EGI).

In the long e-mail, Kishwar has complained that ever since “the old guard passed away I haven’t received a notice for Guild meetings.”

“In other words, the Guild does not even maintain bare minimum rituals of being an organisation,” she further said.

Asking for the refund of her life membership fee, which was Rs 10,000 at that time, Kishwar said, “I gave it during MJ Akbar's tenure as president which turned out to be The Beginning of the End of the Editors Guild.”

exchange4media tried reaching out to Shekhar Gupta, President, EGI, Raj Chengappa and Madhu Kishwar, but we received no response..
