Madhu Kishwar demands refund of lifetime membership fee from Editors Guild of India
Madhu Purnima Kishwar, founder Manushi, a journal about women, demanded a refund of Rs 10,000, which she had paid to the Editors Guild of India for lifetime membership.
âBut since the Guild as a body has turned into a farce and does not even extend me the courtesy of being treated like an ordinary member--most of whom don't even pay yearly duesâI request you to refund my hard earned money which i (sic) gave to the guild by way of life membership,â she wrote in an email to Raj Chengappa, former president of Editors Guilf of India (EGI).
In the long e-mail, Kishwar has complained that ever since âthe old guard passed away I havenât received a notice for Guild meetings.â
âIn other words, the Guild does not even maintain bare minimum rituals of being an organisation,â she further said.
Asking for the refund of her life membership fee, which was Rs 10,000 at that time, Kishwar said, âI gave it during MJ Akbar's tenure as president which turned out to be The Beginning of the End of the Editors Guild.â
