The phase-wise implementation of digitisation is bringing about positive changes in the broadcast industry and the Indian cable television industry is entering an exciting phase of both opportunities and challenges.

However, major cable operators are facing the issue of deadline for implementation of DAS. Though the previous UPA Government had set December 31, 2014 as the deadline for implementation of the final phase of digitisation, cable operators are not sure about this deadline with the new government just taking over.

Tony D’Silva, Group CEO (Media), Hinduja Group and MD, IndusInd Media & Communications is expecting a lot from the new government. On the issue of digitisation he said, “I am requesting the Government to announce firm dates for Phase III and IV of digitisation so that I can plan my investment. There is no confirmation on December 2014. That was the original announcement made, since then there have been a lot of voices and noises in the Ministry regarding extension of the digitisation deadline.”
