Nestled at the heart of the Lutyens Zone, is the Hon’ble Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal, in one of the most unusual places you could expect to find a courtroom- a four star hotel! The Tribunal on a daily basis deals with matters of great public importance such as fixing tariff for DTH (Direct to home) services for Television viewing, online banking frauds, Airport tariffs and issues related to Telecom services.

Come and take a journey to this incredible Court inside Samrat Hotel, an elegant stone and marble structure built around a central flower-filled atrium and open-air courtyard, with a coffee shop and a lounge on the ground floor where one can see Advocates grabbing their morning coffee, before heading up to the Tribunal on the 3rd floor to argue their matters for the day.

The Tribunal has recently passed path breaking judgments in various matters. In Broadcasting Petition 429/2017 titled Amrit Aneja, Sole Proprietor of AACL Enterprises Vs. SITI Networks Ltd, the Tribunal inter alia, held that the purpose of establishing a special tribunal like TDSAT must be judged by the objects of the Act and its contents. In a landmark judgment, Telecommunication Appeal 1/2018 titled Bharti Airtel Ltd. & Anr. v Telecom Regulatory Authority of India & Anr. the Tribunal inter alia, set aside certain regulations contained in the Telecommunication Tariff (Sixty Third Amendment) Order, 2018 dated 16.02.2018 with respect to the provisions on predatory pricing, Significant Market Player, and related provisions.

There are various familiar faces you will recognise pacing the courtrooms of TDSAT senior advocates and the TDSAT regulars being among them. Various stakeholders are represented by renowned senior advocates like  Parag P. Tripathi, Salman Khurshid, Amit Sibal, Maninder Singh, Gopal Jain, Vikas Singh, Ramji Srinivasan and many others who with their in-depth legal acumen make the Tribunal a place of immense learning and excitement for the legal fraternity as well as the common man. Among the most notable law firms in the Tribunal are Trust Legal, having more than 400 Broadcasting matters alone, Singh & Singh having many matters relating to Broadcasting as well as Telecommunication followed by Tandon & Co., K&T Law Offices, RegLaw Chambers, Vedya Partners to name a few. There are various Advocates creating a mark in TDSAT, including Tejveer Singh Bhatia, Sharath Sampath, Kunal Tandon,  Nasir Hussain Vibhav Srivastava and  Ritwika Nanda among others.

One can only relish in the beauty of this unusual structure, a courtroom inside a Hotel room, the strange yet convenient feeling of having a valet, an electronic cause list and being in the presence of these Tribunal megastars. This Court is truly an experience like no other.
