BARC Week 28: English news channels see drop in viewership ratings
In week 28 of 2019, combined viewership of the top 5 English news channels stood at 1.929 million impressions, a 1.8 per cent drop from 1.964 million impressions in week 27
In week 28 of 2019, the combined BARC's weekly ratings of the top four English channels saw a slump to the third-lowest total since week 13, according to reports. This comes after BARC had stopped publishing rating from week 6 of 2019 after TRAI's New Tariff Order came into effect, giving time for viewership to stabilise in an effort to prevent misuse of data. After publishing resumed on week 13, BARC returned to an older method of measurement using data on landing pages and outliers from week 23 of 2019.
Ratings of several genres have reportedly been impacted by the landing page and outlier method of measurement. In week 28 of 2019, combined viewership of the top 5 English news channels stood at 1.929 million impressions, a 1.8 per cent drop from 1.964 million impressions in week 27. In week 28, Republic TV's ratings fell by 5.7 per cent with 0.593 impressions, while Times Now saw a 7.8 per cent drop in ratings to 0.424 million impressions. Doordarshan DD India's ratings stood at 0.345 million impressions, a 3.1 per cent decline from the previous week, while CNN News18's ratings fell by 3.8 per cent with 0.279 million weekly impressions.
In week 28 of the BARC ratings, India Today Television saw a 25. 8 per cent increase in viewership with 0.288 million impressions.
