68 million viewers tune-in for Asian Games 2018: BARC Data
The multi-sporting event garnered 84.7 million impressions in the first week of the games
The world’s second largest multi- sporting event, Asian Games 2018 witnessed 68 million viewers tuned in to support India at the games.
The sporting event garnered 84.7 million impressions in the first week of the games. In the total viewership, Rural India contributed 56 percent eyeballs to the event according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India data.
The viewership of non-cricket sports receives a huge boost at Asian Games. Sports like Hockey viewership increased 6 times, Wrestling (10x), Badminton (12x), Basketball (70x), Kabaddi (101x) and Tennis (102x). Other sports’ viewership has increased by 259 times which includes sports like gymnastic, swimming, shooting, archery, weightlifting among others. (All live telecast events compared to L4W average)
Asian Games was aired on nine channels including Sony ESPN (SD+HD), Sony Ten 1 (SD+HD), Sony Ten 2(SD+HD), Sony Ten 3 (SD+HD) and DD Sports.
The 18th Asian Games closed at a glittering ceremony in Jakarta on 2 September, it was a two-week tournament featuring 40 sports. India’s overall medal tally reached 68 (15 Gold, 24 Silver and 29 Bronze) at the 18th edition of the Asian Games, creating a record medal overhaul in the history of the Asian quadrennial multi-sport event which had started at the National Stadium in New Delhi in 1951.
