Radio to go all guns on Women's Day

International Women's Day, originally called International Working Women’s Day is marked on the 8th of March every year. It is a day of comprehensive celebration of women in different regions across the world. The hub ranges from general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements.

Most of the media will try and turn as women centric as possible today and so will the radio.

As a part of Women’s Day celebration, Fever Entertainment (the events division of Fever 104 FM) is organising a Fever Unplugged concert with Padmashri Shubha Mudgal in Delhi on 13th March.

Fever Unplugged is a property of Fever Entertainment wherein concerts are organised to celebrate ‘pure notes’. In this format, no recorded music or heavy electronic instruments are used; in fact, the ambience is set just right, with mood lighting and a band/artiste performing soulful music.

94.3 Radio One will celebrate women who have made it on their own will share the airwaves. Listeners can listen to Rani Mukherjee, Priyanka Chopra, Saina Nehwal and Vidya Balan share their experiences on air.

Anil Machado, National Programming Head, 94.3 Radio One, mentioned, “This Women’s Day, 94.3 Radio One goes over board with music and women. We also have special contests running through the day where we ask our listeners (esp. males) to describe a day in their lives without any women! This is our way to tell everyone, that a woman really plays a very important role in the family.”

Listeners will also be able to hear Asha Bhosle and a few of her unplugged songs exclusively only on 94.3 Radio One. In Delhi on the evening drive show, they exclusively have the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dixit, talking of her favourite songs along with ex-super cop Kiran Bedi.

Hello FM 106.4 is ready to showcase a line-up of programs on International Women’s Day on March 8, 2011, across their seven stations in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
Hello FM will take the whole day to celebrate the women achievers in its inimitable style on March 8; women from various walks of life will take centre stage. Listeners of Hello FM will begin the day saluting legendary Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulakshmi and her performance of Suprabatham. Starting there, all shows on Women’s Day will celebrate the contribution of women in various facets of life viz. art, literature, cinema, social service and corporate affairs. Hello FM, through various shows on Women’s Day, will also provide a platform for women to voice their opinion on various issues concerning the society. The regular daily game show in the evening will be an exclusive ladies’ special. Women contestants will be invited to participate in the battle of wits that will test their skills with word-play, riddles, puzzles, mind-benders etc. There will be an all-day special SMS initiative across all seven locations that will invite listeners to nominate their nomination for the ‘Hello Woman Crown’.

Radio Mango on the occasion of women's day is running a campaign- ‘Speak up’ which is a message that Radio Mango wishes to convey to listeners this Women's Day. From actor Rima Kallingal, who relates the story of how she shouted at a man who misbehaved with her on a bus, to a Radio Mango listener who turned around and accosted a man who was harassing her at the railway station, the campaign gives voice to those women who have spoken up for themselves when the situation demanded. The campaign, named 'Shout at Sight' is intended to encourage women to speak up for themselves and puts together stories from listeners on how the simple act of speaking can stop unwarranted behaviour.
