ICC CWC'11: Red FM pulls out all stops for cricket

From anthems to on-ground activities – radio has been searing the airwaves with Cricket World Cup buzz. Red FM’s Cup’s too runneth over with cricket-related content.

Nisha Narayanan, Senior VP - Projects and Programming, Red FM, said, “Cricket is by far the unifying sport in India. And, with our country being a host to this edition of the World Cup, there is an unprecedented level of excitement among the people. This makes a perfect listener–Red FM–cricket connect. We want our listeners to actually contribute to India’s wins in the tournament, and ‘Totka’ does just that.”

When it comes to cricket, there are superstitions (totkas) galore that fans resort to, to ensure that the Indian team wins. Red FM is asking listeners to share their quirky ‘totkas’ by sending an SMS. The most interesting totkas would be shortlisted and put on air. Listeners can vote for their favourite totka and the winning totka would be executed by Red FM on the day of India matches.

In Delhi, the winning ‘totka’ was submitted by a listener from Uttam Nagar. He apparently wears a brand new set of innerwear for every India match. So, Red FM distributed new sets of undergarments to Delhiites across all parts of the city be it housing societies, markets or parks. The listener who had submitted the winning totka won a grand cricket kit.

This apart, RJ Mantra is hosting quite a few cricket-related segments. The show is a combination of cricket games, sparklers, characters, cricket gupshup , trivia and prizes.

‘Baby over’, sponsored by Aircel, is a cricket trivia game where two teams battle out on air with three questions bowled to each team. The team with maximum runs wins hampers, phones, etc.

‘Extra fittings’ is for the ones who want the latest update and expertise on the current matches, hosted by the not so expert Tandira lady, Piddu Paaji and a host of other non-experts from different countries (also known as the ‘Dasavtars of Mantra’).

‘Stumps and Gilli’ is a programme that seeks to help one brush up their 4th umpire skills.

‘World Cup Bajaate Raho Moments’ encapsulate the best moments of the Cricket World from its origin in 1975 till date. ‘Pakkad sako to Pakkad lo’ is a contest for the non-cricket lovers in cricket style, where a superfast commentary is delivered by RJ Mantra on an incident, all one has to do is sharpen one’s hearing skills and catch the answer embedded in the commentary.
