IRS Q3 2010: No surprises in English dailies genre; TOI, HT, The Hindu lead the pack

There are no surprises in the English dailies genre in the IRS Q3 2010 results. The Times of India, Hindustan Times and The Hindu lead the pack. Both TOI and HT have recorded a positive growth in Average Issue Readership (AIR), while The Hindu has seen a decline of 3.66 per cent in readership. The whole segment grew by a marginal 0.55 per cent. Six of the top 10 English dailies have recorded negative growth.

The Times of India has seen a growth of 2.34 per cent over the previous quarter and has recorded an AIR of 7,254,000 in Q3 from 7,088,000 in the previous quarter. Hindustan Times, too, has recorded positive growth in AIR – up 1.85 per cent at 3,517,000 in Q3 from 3,453,000 in Q2.

The Hindu, on the other hand, has seen decline of 3.66 per cent its AIR – from 2,185,000 in Q2 to 2,105,000 in this quarter.

Finishing at the fourth and fifth spots, respectively, are The Telegraph and Deccan Chronicles. Both dailies have recorded negative growth.

There was no change in the top 10 table over the previous quarter, except for The Economic Times switching places with DNA. The Economic Times has dethroned DNA from the sixth spot and has recorded a growth of 5.98 per cent in its AIR at 798,000 over the previous quarter.

Mumbai Mirror, The Tribune and The New Indian Express finished at the eighth, ninth and tenth spots, respectively. While Mumbai Mirror and The New Indian Express have seen a decline in AIR, 3.82 per cent and 2.32 per cent, respectively; The Tribune has seen a growth of 1.02 per cent in its AIR at 594,000.
