Despite cleared payments, three reminders by Press Club, land for new campus hangs in limbo

A letter that Press Club of India (PCI) had sent to Land and Development Office (L&DO), Urban Development Ministry on July 9, 2018, read, “This is gentle reminder once again that after having paid all our dues along with interest...the Press Club of India is keenly awaiting to hear from you about the new date for handing over the possession."

According to the letter, PCI had received a communication from L&DO on June 19, 2018 informing that the possession of the land allotted to the club at 6 & 8, Rajendra Prasad Road, Delhi would be handed over to them on June 20, 2018.
However, interestingly, Gautam Lahiri, President, Press Club of India, received an SMS from L&DO saying that the possession could not be handed over them, as assured to them before, due to some “unavoidable reasons”.
“We paid our final installment on June 19 and have no record of irregular financial activity or otherwise. All payments were made through cheques and bank accounts, no cash was paid,” Lahiri told exchange4media.
Several sources close to the matter also told exchange4media the delay in giving possession of the land to PCI “could also be for building pressure on PCI to share the allotted lands with Rajya Sabha TV.”
Earlier this year, Rajya Sabha TV had sent an official proposal to PCI requesting them to share the concerned pieces of lands with them. Conforming about this proposal Lahiri said, “We had even shared the proposal in our meeting but it was rejected by the members.”
While speaking to exchange4media, Lahiri added, “Now pressure is also being built on the managing committee by the members of Press Club to explore legal option if there is further delay”.
