Chauthi Dunia enters Maharashtra market

After spreading its wings in the North Indian markets, weekly Hindi newspaper Chauthi Dunia has recently entered Maharashtra. Headquartered in Vidarbha, the paper hit the newsstands with 11,000 copies. The weekly paper is priced at Rs 5 pan India.

It may be recalled that the newspaper had launched its Uttar Pradesh/ Uttarakhand editions in November 2010. When asked about the thought process behind foraying into the Maharashtra market, Santosh Bhartiya, Editor-in-Chief, Chauthi Dunia, said, “Maharashtra has many Hindi dominated areas and we found growing demand for a weekly newspaper there. Chauthi Dunia is an issue based newspaper and we would like to raise pertinent issues of the state.”

He further said that the newspaper would have local news pages dedicated to every edition. The newspaper is targeting local as well as national advertisers in the state. Interestingly, the newspaper has not yet introduced any campaign to support the launch.

On the feedbacks Chauthi Dunia was getting for the recently launched UP editions, Bhartiya said, “The feedbacks we have got are positive. We have seen growing demand in the state.”

Bhartiya, however, did not disclose the next destination of the newspaper, but did say that demand for a weekly Hindi newspaper was high in Rajasthan, among other areas.

Chauthi Dunia had launched its Bihar and Jharkhand editions nearly one and a half years back. Also, in May 2010, the paper had launched its Urdu edition in the country.

As is known, Chauthi Dunia was revived after a gap of 17 years in 2009. The Sunday paper, which had closed down in 1992 after a six-year run, had made a comeback in its new avatar in March 2009.
