Businessman & BJP activist Sudhanshu Mittal files defamation complaint against The Times of India

Businessman and BJP activist Sudhanshu Mittal has filed a defamation complaint against Bennett, Coleman and Company Ltd for the report carried on The Times of India’s website on October 19, 2010, titled ‘CWG scam: CBI raids BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal’s house’.

Amongst the various points made in the complaint, it was stated that: “the Plaintiff categorically submits that CBI has never raided the premises of the Plaintiff and thus the heading/ title of the news article: ‘CBI raids BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal’s house’ is factually incorrect and false statement published by the accused persons to defame the Plaintiff.”

The complaint challenges the veracity of the contents of the article and stated that the article has caused damage to both Mittal’s business interests and social repute. In a conversation with exchange4media, Mittal said, “The publication has become irresponsible and has a pre-determined agenda to defame me. For me, right to dignity is a part of right to life, and if need be, I will follow a civil defamation with a criminal complaint to take this to its logical end.”

The case had come up in court on December 4, 2010 and would come up for hearing again.

As is known, Sudhanshu Mittal is a senior leader of the BJP and currently a member of National Council of BJP and is working very closely with BJP leaders. He is also the owner of ‘Delhi Tents & Decorators’, which was awarded a contract worth Rs 29 lakh for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
