American Express Publishing has come out with the findings of The American Express Publishing Survey of Affluence & Wealth in America. The study is significant for India as the study shows that India is a top destination for wealthy consumers in America. The study is co-produced with Harrison Group, a leading marketing and strategic research consulting firm. The study takes into account more than 11MM households with more than $100,000 in discretionary income to spend on goods and services and monitors the behaviour of these American elite on a monthly basis.
A wholly-owned subsidiary of American Express Company, American Express Publishing’s magazine brands include, ‘Travel + Leisure’, ‘Food & Wine’, ‘Departures’ and ‘Executive Travel’.
Ed Kelly, President and CEO, American Express Publishing, said, “American Express Publishing launched ‘Departures India’ in December 2010 with our partner Journal International. We extended the ‘Departures’ magazine brand to the Asia-Pacific market with six new editions being distributed throughout India as well as Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand. This Indian issue is customised with original content developed specifically for the local audience and accompanied by market-relevant editorial from the US edition.”
Kelly also mentioned that ‘Departure’ had India as the annual destination issue in October 2008. The special issue was a comprehensive guide to undiscovered India and was honoured with a prestigious award given by the Association of Magazine Editors.
For the past seven years, American Express Publishing has partnered with the Ministry of Tourism to bring the ‘Incredible !ndia’ campaign to life on the pages of the company’s publications – ‘Travel + Leisure’, ‘Food & Wine’, ‘Departures’ and ‘Executive Travel’ – and on their websites, generating increased visits to India from the US.
Richard David Story, Editor-in-Chief, Departures, said, “In our most recent Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards readers’ survey (2010), the Oberoi Vanyavilas was named the World’s Best Hotel overall, a very impressive and well-deserved honour. In this survey, India was also well represented with seven hotels in the Top 50. Clearly, our readers are visiting India and coming away with memories of once-in-a-lifetime experiences at amazing properties that have superior service.”
