Raj Chengappa gets another term as President, Editors Guild; vows to protect press freedom
At the recent AGM of the Guild, Raj Chengappa was unanimously re-elected as President while Prakash Dubey was named the General Secretary
Veteran journalist Raj Chengappa has been re-elected as the President of the Editors Guild of India. At the Annual General Meeting of the Guild, Chengappa was unanimously re-elected as its President. Prakash Dubey was named the General Secretary.
Commenting on his re-election, Chengappa said, “I feel honoured to be re-elected at a testing time for the profession. There are issues of protecting press freedom, reporting in conflict zones, withstanding pressures from various quarters and being more responsible in our coverage. We will endeavour to address these issues.”
The Guild also elected Kalyani Shankar as Treasurer.
At the meeting, the Guild decided to take a fresh look at the criminal defamation law in India and explore legal options for seeking its abrogation.
