IRS 2014: Nine out of top ten publications gain readership
Top 3 publications are Dainik Jagran, Hindustan and Dainik Bhaskar

The much awaited IRS data has been released after court cases, controversies, anomalies and abeyance. After more than one and a half years, the print industry has something to cheer about.
IRS 2014 released
The data is for an entire year and not for any particular quarter. The readers are requested to analyse the numbers on yearly basis and not on quarterly basis.
As per IRS data for 2014, among the top 10 publications, Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar, The Times of India, Amar Ujala, Lokmat, Daily Thanthi, Hindustan, Malayala Manorama, Rajasthan Patrika and have seen growth in their Average Issue Readership (AIR). On the other hand only Mathrubhumi has seen dip in AIR.
Dainik Jagran, still sitting at the number one position, has seen growth in readership; notching 11, 040, 00 readers. In the previous quarter, AIR of Dainik Jagran was 15,527,000, in 2013 which has increased to 16,631,000 in 2014.
Hindustan continues to be in the second spot, a good sign for the publication as it has registered more than 5, 00,000 readers. In the previous year, the AIR was 14,246,000, which has increased to 14,746,000.
Dainik Bhaskar retains the number three spot. The daily has witnessed a whopping readership growth of 97, 3,000. In the previous year AIR of Bhaskar was 12,857,000, which has increased to 13,830,000.
Malayala Manorama has grabbed the fourth position; it is the only regional daily among the top five. It has added 23, 8,000 readers this year. The AIR of Malayala Manorama was 8,565,000 in 2013, which has increased to 8,803,000 in 2014.
At fifth position, Daily Thanthi has seen growth of more than one lakh and twenty seven thousands reader, with an AIR of 8,156,000 in previous year and 8,283,000 in the current year.
Rajasthan Patrika remains at the sixth position with 7,905,000 readers. Last year the Hindi daily had 7,665,000 readers. The daily has added 24, 0000 readers this year.
Amar Ujala replaced the English daily Times of India on the seventh position and added 7, 37,000 readers to its kitty. The AIR of Amar Ujala last year was 7,071,000 which have increased to 7,808,000 this year.
The Times of India is the only English publication in this list. The paper has lost its seventh position and currently it’s on number eight among the top ten. The paper has gained 3, 36,000 readers during the entire year, taking its AIR from 7,254, 000 in 2013 to 7,590,000 in 2014.
Mathrubhumi is the only paper which has seen decline in the readership this year. The paper has lost 1,116,000 readers this year. The AIR of the paper was 6,136,000 in 2013 which has come down to 6,020,000 in 2014.
Lokmat sits at the number tenth position with AIR of 5,887,000 readers compared to 5,601,000 readers in 2013. The paper has added 2, 86,000 readers this year.
