The Indian media and advertising industry is bidding farewell to yet another action packed year. And even as much has happened in the year, here is a list of the top few developments that were read the most by exchange4media.com readers.

Break in Aaj Tak’s reign; India TV claims top spot (September 16, 2010)

Interestingly, this report has remained the highest read through the year. Rajat Sharma’s India TV had left its rivals behind in the TRP stakes to be the new No. 1. It had unseated Aaj Tak, for long the numero uno amongst Hindi news channels, for six weeks. From Week 33 to Week 37, India TV has remained ahead of other Hindi news channels in CS 15+ category in all Hindi speaking markets. Since then, the war has continued though Aaj Tak is another genre leader that knows how to defend its turf.

IRS 2010: A comprehensive coverage of all the quarters

Indian Readership Survey can create havoc in the industry with the release of every round, and this year the frequency of chaos had increased. It was interesting to note that even as most IRS reports managed to stay in Most Popular, it were reports that included players such as The Times of India, Hindustan Times, Dainik Jagran and such rivals that stayed on top.

Post CWG opening ceremony, newspapers sing a different tune; even cricket takes a back seat (October 05, 2010)

The spectacular opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi silenced everyone, and overnight all criticisers, including the media, were full of superlatives and praise. The U-turn by the media, in particular, has been interesting, so much so that even the India-Australia cricket series that was going on at that time had to take a back seat.

Notion Ink's Adam finally available – India’s best tablet? (December 20, 2010)

Bangalore-based startup Notion Ink finally put the much delayed Adam tablet on sale. The device, which is priced a tad lower than the iPad, is a standout product from an Indian manufacturer, which aims to compete with Apple and Samsung not by offering a low price, but by providing a user experience and device engineering at a quality that matches the global leaders. The launch has not been without controversy, however, and CEO Rohan Shravan defends his company’s decision to keep things under wraps even as it starts to sell the tablet.

Microsoft says online better than television for advertising (December 06, 2010)

Microsoft is focusing on social networks over television to publicise its newest gaming product.
