STAR India hosts workshop on ‘Comparative Perspectives on Media Self-Regulation and Society’

Star India is hosting a two-day workshop on ‘Comparative Perspectives on Media Self-Regulation and Society’ in Delhi on December 14-15, 2010. The workshop will explore international and comparative perspectives on media regulation as it affects current debates and the future role of information in society.

The workshop will attempt to bring together diverse views of academics, bureaucrats, policy makers, industry leaders, civil society and legal experts. In light of the current controversies in the media fraternity around the world, this workshop will deal with increased demands for content regulation on entertainment channels in India as well current debates on media ethics.

Key speakers expected to address this workshop include Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni; Rajiv Takru, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; Justice JS Verma, Ex-Chief Justice of India; noted academician, Professor Satish Deshpande; Anupam Kher actor and former Chairperson, CBFC; Sunil Abraham of Centre for Internet and Society; Sevanti Ninan, senior columnist; Anurradha Prasad, Chairperson, BAG Films and President, Association of Radio Operators of India; Prashant Bhushan, senior advocate; Siddharth Luthra, senior advocate; Johra Chatterjee, Member Secretary, National Commission for Women; G Krishnan, Vice President, IBF; and Narayan Rao, CEO, NDTV and Board Member, IBF.

Leading international researchers and experts in media regulation, Professor Monroe E Price from the University of Pennsylvania; Jonathan Blake of Covington and Burling; and Professor Wolfgang Shulz from the Hans Bredow Institute will also be part of this workshop.
