Eight Indian media companies feature in this year’s Fortune 500 list among top 500 industrial corporations in the US and other countries. The annual list is brought out by ‘Fortune’, the global business magazine published by Time Inc’s Fortune/ Money Group, on the basis of sales and gross revenue.
In the latest Fortune 500 list, Bennett, Coleman & Co Ltd (BCCL) is ranked 162 and is the highest ranked among the Indian media companies. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd is ranked 263, while Sun TV Network is at 367. HT Media Ltd and Network18 Media and Investment are ranked 375 and 379, respectively, in the list.
DB Corp, New Delhi Television (NDTV) and Deccan Chronicle Holdings have also made it to the Fortune 500 list.
The first Fortune 500 list was published in 1955. The list includes both publicly and privately held companies for which revenues are publicly available.
Several Indian companies feature in the Fortune 500 list. These companies have been contributing steadily to the GDP of the country and, therefore, playing a vital role in the growth of India’s economy.
