Lakme plans to launch two new skincare products

Lakme Lever plans to launch two new skincare products in the forthcoming Lakme India Fashion Week 2002. The company will also launch a new range of colour cosmetics in line with the new statement in September 2002.

Riding high on the launch of the new fashion statement coinciding with Lakme India Fashion Week 2002, sales of Lakme colour cosmetics surged by 26 per cent immediately after Lakme India Fashion Week 2001.

Meanwhile, Lakme, which phased out its super premium colour cosmetics brand Orchids about two years ago, neither has any plans to revive the brand nor fill the slot with a new brand.

The company also does not plan to re-enter categories such as talcum powders and perfumes. Lakme, which had two perfume brands—Shie and Ivana—withdrew from the perfume segment about two years ago.

According to industry sources Lakme enjoys a 52 per cent marketshare in the Rs 250-crore colour cosmetics market. It, however, has only seven per cent marketshare in the overall Rs 700-crore skincare market.
