FIFA 2018: "Will utilise association with World Cup in Russia to the best extent possible"

Kia Motors has partnered with FIFA as automotive partner of the 2018 World Cup in Russia. As a result, the brand has created an opportunity for Indian football players between 10-14 years to experience the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, part of the Kia Official Match Ball Carrier.

Speaking on the association with FIFA, Kookhyun Shim, Managing Director & CEO- Kia Motors India, said, “Our customers are those who are young-at-heart and passionate, just like us. To engage with our target customers, Kia is partnering with some of the world’s most exciting sporting event such as the FIFA World Cup, Australian Open and NBA. We are proud to bring our association with global sports to India to inspire youngsters in the country."

To begin with, Kia has given a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to 64 youngsters by inviting them to Russia as “Official Match Ball Carriers”.

Kia will be launching its first vehicle in India by the second half of 2019. Elaborating the India plans, Manohar Bhatt, Head- Marketing, Kia, said, “We are young in the Indian market and our design also caters to the younger generation. Sport is an appealing and easy way of connecting to the Indian audience. Very soon, there will be many initiatives from Kia Motors."

“Our plan is, by the time we launch our first vehicle, Kia should become a household name. It’s a beginning and there are many exciting things that are going to happen," he added.

Being the official sponsor of the Football World Cup, Kia Motors will also supply around 420 cars which will ferry the players, delegates etc. to assist in the smooth running of the global sports event.

“We will utilise the global association with FIFA to the best extent possible to popularise the game and also promote the brand here in India," added Bhatt. 

Kia Motors started its India operations nearly a year ago. “It has been a momentous journey so far. Earlier this year at AutoExpo we show-cased the much-awaited SUV Concept car, which truly fits into the ‘Make in India’ initiative as it will be developed exclusively for the Indian market. Kia is passionate about making cars, and is known for design and quality. We are the 8th largest car maker in India," said Bhatt.

The FIFA tournament kicks off on June 14. In total 32 nations from around the globe will participate in what is the most-celebrated football competition in the world.
